Early life
Li Yifeng was born in Chengdu, Sichuan, and attended several schools throughout his education. He completed his primary education at Chengdu Sanshengjie Primary School from 1994 to 2000, followed by three years of junior high school at Chengdu Xuedao Street Middle School from 2000 to 2003. He then attended Chengdu Fifth Middle School for senior high school from 2003 to 2006.
In 2010, Li Yifeng graduated from the Department of Broadcasting and Hosting, School of Film and Television at Sichuan Normal University with a bachelor's degree. His education and training in broadcasting and hosting likely contributed to his success as an actor and singer in the entertainment industry.
Career
Li Yifeng's career took off in 2007 after he participated in the talent show competition, My Hero, where he finished in 8th place and won the Most Popular Contestant award. He subsequently released his first single "The One I Love Hurts Me the Most" and his first EP Four Leaf Clover in November of that year.
In 2009, Li made his acting debut in the drama The Prince of Tennis 2, which was adapted from the popular Japanese anime The Prince of Tennis. He played the role of Saeki Kojirou in the series and released his first full-length album Mr Child in the same year.
Li's popularity grew after his role in the Taiwanese drama Sunny Happiness, which received high ratings in both Taiwan and China. He won the Best New Actor award at the 2011 China TV Drama Awards for his performance. That same year, he made his feature film debut in Lovesick, alongside Ariel Lin and Chen Bolin.
In 2012, Li received critical acclaim for his portrayal of an autistic youth in the television series White Lies. The following year, he starred in the romance revenge drama The Return of a Princess, winning the Best Acting Idol award at the 2013 China TV Drama Awards and the Most Popular Actor award at the 2013 LeTV Awards. These achievements cemented Li Yifeng's status as a rising star in the Chinese entertainment industry.
Li's breakthrough came in 2014 with his performance in the fantasy action-drama Swords of Legends, where he played the lead role of Baili Tusu. The drama was a huge hit in China, topping viewership ratings and online views, and Li's popularity and commercial value soared as a result. He became the first actor to win the Newcomer award at the 2014 Elle Style Awards and released his first autobiographical book entitled A Once in a Lifetime Moment.
In 2015, Li starred in two popular dramas, Legend of Fragrance and The Lost Tomb, and produced an outdoor variety show called Let's Go! Go! Go! While his films Forever Young and Fall in Love Like a Star received negative reviews, his supporting role in the crime blockbuster Mr. Six won critical acclaim and topped Chinese box office charts. Li won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 33rd Hundred Flowers Awards and was named "Most Commercially Valuable Celebrity" by CBN Weekly. He entered the 2015 Forbes Chinese Celebrity list for the first time, placing at 9th.
In 2016, Li was appointed the Chinese Spectator Ambassador for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and won the 2016 SIA Style Icon Award. He starred in two popular dramas, Noble Aspirations and Sparrow, with the latter becoming the highest-rated war drama to date. Li won the Best Actor award at the China TV Golden Eagle Award for his performance in Sparrow.
In 2018, Li appeared in the CCTV New Year's Gala and starred in the thriller film Animal World, which received positive reviews and topped the box office. In 2020, he starred in the critically acclaimed dramas Wait in Beijing and Fearless Whispers. In 2021, Li starred in The Glory of Youth, a military drama produced by the People's Liberation Army Rocket Force, and the xianxia fantasy drama Mirror: Twin Cities.
In 2022, he played the protagonist role in the suspense series Day Breaker, which received positive reviews and ranked second on the 2022 Top Suspense Dramas list.
